Posted: 06/25/2012 Name: Sharon Hall Message: As many of you already know, Ross Hall passed away yesterday, June 24. Little in his life meant more to him than that the Ranger community embraced him so. He considered it the highest of honors to be accepted and counted among you. Memorial services will be held at Dahlonegta Funeral Home on Highway 60, Friday, June 29, with visitation from 9:30-10:30 with the service to follow. In lieu of flowers he asked that memorial gifts be made to the US Army Mountain Ranger Association or Rainbow Children's Home, 247 East Main St., Dahlonega. And for me, thank you from the bottom of my heart for so enriching his life ... and mine. |

Posted: 05/01/2012 Name: Mark Jordan-S1 Message: USMRA APRIL 2012 MINUTES, AS SAID …Outside on the porch of the Overhang, 19 intrepid souls looked forward to the Cinqo de Mayo Critter Cookout with a gleam in their eyes and a hunger in their gut…the last meeting before the biggest event ever of the year anywhere is closing upon us fast…and these minutes, recording everything said…as a historical record of the people and times of what each meeting has for future generations to enjoy and realize we were as crazy as they ever hoped to be… …the Ranger Student Residents who elect to find a phase of the course they really like and stick to it for multiple cycles were fifty feet away, doing their afternoon PT with our old men trying to hear and talk so they could be heard…good thing Willard and I usually sit close by each other and I particularly like the sentiment and genuine empathy, Willard Langdon, Chaplain, provides each meeting…here’s Willard… …” We thank you for being here again for another meeting and we thank you for each and every one of our members here for everything they’ve done in their life for our country and our *******(indistinct PT noise drowning out the words)…for our association Lord. Just thank you for our troops, especially the ones serving each and every day, especially the ones in harm’s way; just be with them and give them clear minds to make decisions to keep them safe. Be with their families while they are separated. A special prayer for the leadership from the Camp all the way thru our Association for Open House and we just pray for a safe and wonderful time as always. We had a couple of things go wrong… Chris Fuller (Overhang Manager) called me and said the Club and the Camp will support all food and necessary candy and we had $127.00 out of our money to buy prizes…About 150 people showed up, 100 adults, and about 75 kids…thanks to everybody who showed up…Doug Perry, Steve Hawk…my two cooks were Gary Head and Jimmy Phipps, who was late getting here and Chris Fuller, who supplied the tables…In other words, it was a good time, we all had fun and I got pictures to put online very soon,” and looking at the WebMaster, “if you’ll put them online as I get them to you”…there’s a mysterious stranger also among the intrepid individuals who faced the minions and mothers of PV…we’ll see what those pictures may show… …Al speaks about the non profit status consideration made about a Veterans Organization, “and since the Treasurer is not here…it’s in the works but we don’t know when it’s going to happen”… …finally, the noise from the Ranger Recycles ends… …Al, “Let’s have a short discussion about the Critter Cookout as this is the last meeting before the Cookout…I’m pretty sure, Gary, Steve, myself, Ted Tilson, Bear Shuler, Jimmy Phipps, Kenny, his son in law, we should have two big smokers coming in”…Doug Perry, “Is Kenny gonna be here?”…Suchke, Bob we’re going to need some wood for the smoker, preferable some tasty wood…, Bob Suchke, “I got Wild Cherry coming”…”Good, you got Wild Turkey coming?”….”I got hog and deer”…Al, “Okay somebody said something about a goat”…Bob Suchke, “forget the goat”…”if you’re gonna get a goat, get a sheep, a goat ain’t worth a s**t to eat, I’ve eaten a few goats”…Al, “are we going to do anything about crowd control?...”there is going to be a band down here, a live band laid on for us at 6pm, the Corbett Brothers Band Concert and Critter Cookout”, Doug Perry…Doug, “we serve til we give out and that’s it”…Al, “are we going to be able to control that?”…tickets, bands, crowd control without a solution…$5 a plate that gives us revenue…food vs people is what we’re talking about…ongoing mumbling amongst the members…Ed Gross, “there’s not a good way Al, we’ve talked this thing, there’s no way to check”…(should Ed strike a motion, I’d second it immediately, just to make him feel better from his last attempt to get a motion and him not being present again til now…)…”roster with driver’s license…run out of food and it’s over”… …Al, “last year we served too early and it wasn’t done”…”we need to serve around 1700 or later”…band starts at 1800, so we serve at 1700, without a motion or vote to Al’s relief… …our meeting is after the Fallen Ranger at 1600…Doug, “can we get a sign made for ‘USMRA members and Active Duty Only’”…Al says he can do it for $40, mention is made of Bob Williams being able to get it sooner and cheaper…”Fish Fry will start serving at 1800, we have 400 fish…coleslaw, hushpuppies and French fries…the tent will be down here for overnight sleeping…Al talks of putting his personal tent on the sand; Doug says “no”…not on the sand…Chris Fuller says someone may want to play volleyball…”at 3 in the morning?!”… …Steve Bishop brings up the policing up of the area on Sunday…Al spoke of cleaning up…Pete, “I always clean up my area”…more talking of having support from the membership for cleaning up the area after the storm has gone thru from Saturday… …Doug’s betting a fat woman that there’s no power out on the pole…bullhorn for crowd control…putting a sign up for crowd control…you can imagine the discussions going on among the members about anything that may be considered in all the details of anything that has to do with the CCO…(we do have a great firepit created back where we need it)… …Al, New Business…having the Ranger Creed read, by those sober, to read the Creed at the Fallen Ranger Memorial…we’ll see who can and will be able to do it…Ranger Students, Keith Antonio mentioned… …Bob Williams, “got the tent sizes ordered for the tee shirts…100, gold with black writing…”…”the signs are being done” and Bob will get them to Doug for Fallen Ranger…general discussions about those who are coming…Kenneth C Leur is coming among with some others, Stanley Fox, Max Mullings, Willie Snow, Bill Spies…lots of guys from 1st Batt from 74 to78… …as the meeting winds down, looking for a motion to end the meeting, Ed is encouraged to make a motion so it will be seconded…Ed does not speak up…more general discussion then Steve Bishop makes a motion to close, Sunny Bragg seconds and Bob didn’t get a chance to oppose before it was done… …as it was, congressionally recorded and preserved for posterity… …RLTW… …Mark Jordan, S1… |

The mission is to improve access to, and quality of Health Care and shelter for our nations Veterans. Check it out at www.valorclinic.org. The website is still under construction an very rough but you will be able to get an idea of the vast amount of recourses that will be required to complete this mission. Be sure to follow the link to their Facebook page and read all the exciting opportunities Mark is working on. I set up VCF to receive credit card donations through their website. Go to the website and send VCF a donation and evaluate the process. I can set up the same thing on our USMRA website for donations and coin purchases. Credit card processing is not terribly expensive but not free either. If credit card capabilities are added to the USMRA website, would you use it enough to cover the $20 a month fee? |
