Posted: 06/09/2015 Name: Bob Williams Message: Thanks, Jim. For those of you trying to figure out the "women in Ranger School issue," read the book Ashley's War. In 2009 the Ranger Regiment ask JSOC for women to accompany them on direct action missions. The book describes the assessment process and some of the missions in which the female soldiers participated. I'm no genius, but based on what I read in the book, I see why the women are being given the opportunity to attend Ranger School. It also states that EVERY MOS will be required to allow women by Oct. 2016 or provide the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joints Chiefs the reasons for denial. I had not heard this before. |

Posted: 03/05/2015 Name: Mark Jordan, Secretary Message: USMRA Feb 2015 Meeting ...one day, these minutes may be in audio/video versions instead of a few notes to touch on the highlights... ...Steve Hawk, President, gets things going by asking Willard Langdon, Chaplain, for a prayer and Willard delivers a fine message and petition for all of us...his sincerity is wonderfully appreciated each time... ...Chuck Windham, Vice President, proceeded with the Secretary's report, Bob Suchke, Treasurer, gave our fundings and Mark Jordan, Secretary, recorded everything with plans for videos next meeting...be aware, very aware... ...Reports accepted with anticipation of Scholarship funds being supplemented by an additional $1,000 from The Wingmen Motorcycle Club...this allows the funds for these awards to be doubled for the first time...2 scholarships at $1,000 each... ...JD Kirby then gave the news about the processing of our input into the Ranger Hall of Fame with information of coming deadlines and particulars of the format to present our own honoree...Brian Cunningham is assisting in this initial effort...Steve says if he's needed to show at the event where nominees are presented to the Committee at Benning, he will be there too... ...Bob Williams, WebMaster, reiterated how the 24, 25 April CCO information is clearly provided on the front page of our website...Bob also has freed up some valuable time to continue his labor of love of our organization...Packets continue to be filling for our Fallen Ranger Memorial...Signs need to be coordinated this year still, for this...Steve Hawk has one packet partially ready, kept in the back of his car for two years, just in case we're short... ...Brian Cunningham briefed about Scholarship Packets having until 1 April for submission...he also listed the names for this year's Planning Bays...I am forgetting his name for humble consideration, but, "stunning, beautiful girl" was a phrase used so much in describing one RI, that I personally hope his mistake of bringing her out to camp years ago will be repeated once more, just to verify this claim...Bob Bischoff said he was curious too... ...Steve let Herb Kirkover (sp?) introduce himself...a former mid 90's RI who retired a year ago and is now living back in the area...last assignment was Brigade Sgt Major at Ft Stewart...we certainly welcome him home to the mountains, hoping for military discounts at Advanced Auto... ...Appreciation Awards for those responsible at Koch Foods have been created, to be presented at our CCO, for heartfelt thanks in providing turkeys for young soldiers and families at Thanksgiving two years in a row...this year alone, 100 turkeys at 16# each were picked up and delivered by Amie Close, wife of Ranger Roy Close...invitations will follow... ...Frank Park, OverHang Boss, reviewed that the Easter Egg Hunt this year will be on March 28... Appreciation was expressed for the support shown last year by Camp Personnel assisting in making that event so well done... ...Steve Hawk presented a possible new venture for old RIs to assist in a statewide HS "Ranger Competition" like South Ga had earlier with 3,000 attendees and family support...here at CFM, utilizing Mountaineering and Patrolling assets for grading... More following as the needs for fundings will be certainly improved by hosting such an annual event, probably in September... ...Steve told a Larry Beauchamp story...a challenge to do a one bound rappel, which he demonstrated by braking a wee bit too late, cracking his ankle on impact but still getting clear of the eyes of the students when he giggled some more... ...Mike Boroski (Mountain Mike) spoke of a need to provide a breakfast on March 15 for a group of eleven younger veterans who are planning to thruhike the AT...Mike introduced this program he's been involved with and asked for assistance this year for the breakfast...updates at our next meeting in March... ...Tom Joyner, GATC RidgeRunner, is walking the TVD from Springer Mountain to Bly Gap, NC this hiking season...he will be assisting those many expected backpackers who usually begin their 2,100 mile journey here in Georgia... ...with eleven present, meeting was adjourned...please be in attendance this evening at 1900, remembering that parking is impossible in the mud around the OverHang... ...RLTW... ...Lt Fuzz, Secretary |

Ranger MAJ Walter A Gunn (USA Ret), Senior Advisor to the 37th Vietnamese Ranger Battalion, Khe Sanh 1968, will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. January 9, 2015 11:00. Ceremony will take place at the Old Chapel, Fort Meyers, VA. Please plan to arrive NLT 1030 hours. Full military honors will be rendered by the 3d Infantry (the Old Guard). Biet Dong Quan Sat!
