Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: ~C Message: There was another ol' fella - only met him once at Blunt's house - and if I remember correctly, Blunt gave him credit for the blueberry pancakes at the messhall. Seems like his name was Harris - big black man with a great sense of humor (and about the same size as Blunt) - according to Blunt, worked at the messhall before my time. I do remember Doug Cook well - I remember when he first came to Camp and took over the R&U shop. There was quite a bit of talk about having this "new" guy come in and take over - but it didn't take long for him to fit himself into the role and join the extended Ranger family that included us civilians. Besides Doug, Blunt, and Nubby - there was another guy who worked the R&U shop - seems like his name was George? And didn't "digger" Lee run the postal shack many, many years ago or is that another of Blunt's old stories? Big Mac and his sidekick, Bill Stoehr worked the Motorpool. "digger" Lee's wife Elsie worked the Motorpool shack. Dick Harmon came in and took over the Motorpool, but I think he passed with a heart attack many years ago. The trucks used to be driven by Vietnam-era vets under a special "hiring" program - and I'm quite sure some of those drivers have stories to tell. "digger" Lee drove, Herman Butler (deceased), Steve Mayo - to name a couple. More will come to mind - but I have to rush off to work now. Love to all ~C |
