Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mark Jordan Message: ...the minutes of our meeting will be posted as I usually do...right before the next meeting, to remind everyone what we're involved in... ...however, although I thought no one would want to assume the role of Secretary...the past some years, I am so pleased to announce that Bob Williams has been nominated and agreeable to assume the position...in January as the Officers begin their continued support of the USMRA... ...Bob is incredibly qualified and capable and as I said last night that I would continue as Secretary, unless anybody else wanted it, I remained sure for another year... ...should there be any doubt in my endorsement of our new Secretary, I surely withdraw my obligation as Secretary and fully support him in his ability to be the communicator of our adventures... ...thank you Bob... ...RLTW... ...Lt Fuzz returns to the masses, gratefully... |

I knew Jimmy when he as an E-7 Mess Sergeant and when he retired from the Army. His last duty assignment on active duty was none other then the Messhall at Camp Merrill. I'm also very happy to read that Doug Cook stayed in the Dahlonega area. I think it's only fitting that he would open up a plumbing shop. They are both real fine men!! All of this makes me want to go out and get a Pepsi then set fire to my hair!! Thanks Doug...Joe |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Joe Mattison Message: Ross: The SGM/CSM Assignments business can get a little funny at times, but one thing E-9s all know, is they won't make E-10. Some have aspirations of being a Brigade CSM, Divison CSM, Corps CSM etc,...and that's how the "system" trains CSMs to think. It's the natural "food chain effect"...but some CSMs are "rogues". I was one of them. I never wanted to serve above Battalion level. I came out of three Battalions of TOE CSM assignments, and back to Camp Merrill. I really wanted to come back to my "Army Home" being Camp Merrill, after those Infantry Battalions that I had. The pleasure of being the CSM of 5th RTBn, Camp Merrill meant more to me then the pursuit of "upward mobility". It was a pleasure for me to return to CFM and serve with the NCOs and Officers who were there at that time, and I owe Sam Spears (CSM Retired)and many others (CSMs and Senior Officers) a lot for "pulling the strings" hard enough to get me there, while others were pulling in the opposite direction, and with other "plans" about my future. I finished my 3rd tour of duty at Camp Merrill as it's CSM, retiring in 1998. I'll be forever grateful to those who made that happen, and to those that I served with while there. I think that we accomplished quite a lot, and did a great many things, and all of it due to the great Cadre of the time. |
