Message: CSM Barron served as the CSM of the 5th RTBn and Camp Merrill from 2000-2003, then as the University of North Georgia's Military Science Department SGM from 2003-2007. He passed away on Wednesday last week at his home in Dahlonega after his fight with ALS. Byron was cremated and his ashes will be interred in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Friday, 20 March, 0900. The 5th RTBn is providing a military detail including firing detail (7), NCOIC, flag detail (6), flag presenter, chaplain. LTC Basso, his CSM, and CSM (Ret) Kevin Connell will attend the funeral as well. The public is invited to a memorial service on the same day - Friday, 20 March, 1500 in the convocation center multi-purpose room, UNG Dahlonega Campus. Doors will open at 1400 for social and light snacks and drinks. Please pass to those who knew Byron or the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Byron’s memory to the UNG Corps of Cadets Fund, c/o UNG Foundation, P.O. box 1599, Dahlonega, GA 30533 or on line at http://bit.ly/UNGCadets_Barron

Message: CSM (Retired) Byron Barron Internment Ceremony for March 20 starting at 0900 at the Canton National Cemetery is confirmed. The Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade will provide Military Honors. The Color Guard from White County will be at the Memorial Service in the afternoon.

Message: Greetings, Memorial Service for CSM (Ret.) Byron Barron is scheduled for March 20th at the UNG Convocation Center. Reception is: 1400 - 1500 and the Memorial is 1500 - 1600. Marina is working on setting up internment ceremony the same morning at the Canton National Cemetery but doesn't have details as of yet. More information to come.
