As for the crash, I was 19 or 20 and went up with a friend who just completed his pilot's course. Turns out he actually didn't finish the course, stole his instructor's airplane and didn't gas up first. Guess he wanted to get away fast, and I didn't know any different. We ran out of fuel about eight miles from the airport, over the water at 5 or 6,000 feet. Almost made it in a shallow glide. I had his 6 year old son sitting on my lap, all strapped in. We hit this plowed field and flipped over. The boy bumped his head on the roof, otherwise, we were fine. Fun and games. |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Jim Regan/MRC '69-'71 Message: Once again, great job by the "Secretary! It always heartens this ol' fellow to read what you guys are doing. Thanks! Some questions/input/just honking! Is Ted Tilson the "Ranger" Captain that I knew @ MRC back in '69-'71? Drove a Toyota Jeep? Next, Halloween; The folks in the surrounding areas always came to the "Trailer Park," just below NGC, for "Trick or Treating!" Then they'd "drop off" all the stray dogs in the WORLD! Took a while to clear out the critters! As far as "outsiders" at the CCO, maybe sell "wristbands?" Remember, a huundred years ago, when we went to clubs/honky Tonks, and they: stamped our hands? Finally; Talking about "Boot Leggers!" There was a great BBQ at a fellows place, Mike Martin's. All the folks were there and guess what? We ran out of beer! Well, Mike Smith and I take off in Mike's Red,MGB, Convertible, on a "Beer Run!" Get to the place and the fellow loads up the trunk from his "Coolers" in his double wide! Outside is a horse. I'm in a cast,(bad jump,) from thigh to ankle. Mike challenges me to ride the horse. Up on the horse, w/ Mike's help, and off I go, straight down the "hard top!" The horse skitters and slips,and I rear back on the reins! No deal. Then, off into the trees goes this hard headed horse. He works hard to "wipe" me off the saddle. Finally, he halts, I go straight over his head, but I'm still firmly grasping the reins. I pull his head down,(can feel his breath,) an smack the daylights out of his nose! I brush off, limp back to the hard top to see Mike, who was in hot persuit. What about the horse, he asked me. Sorry 'bout that, Ch_ _ _ _ _ can come for him, let's get back to the BBQ! Jim RLTW |
