Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: ron rice Message: when i was accepted into the lodge F.M. was on the investigative comm. He and and older gentleman that worked at N Ga, Coll. and a man that lived on the right when you turn left at the light going out of town he drove a studebaker and worked in town hall before all those people got in trouble that worked there. there was a groc. store on the left and a slight inline before his house on the right. i lived in and apartment over top mrs. nina head whom everyone called aunt nina. she was married to i believe the only doctor in d until his death. she had a safe in her home that had many, many vials of gold in it. she was a great lady. and she owned a farm ouside of d. there use to be a store going out of town on the left and they sold a little "shine" with their groceries. the lodge at that time was over a service station on main street. cathy we did have some rough times there. i remember several times having to leave d early and going to yonah to hang on a rappel rope and tie it off behind my left side and using and ice axe to chop 6-10 inch thick ice off the mtn before the students arrived. there would be about six of us instructors in and old army 3/4 with no heat in it going up that road to yonah. all we used at that time was a 12 ft sling rope for a rappell seat and a snaplink. none of this new fangled stuff. and we made the students do body rappels w/o rappel seats or snaplinks. i reckon i have rambled enough. take care and if you have the time send me a message some time. thanks again for listening. rice |
