Three days prior to the gathering at the predetermined rendezvous point, Ranger Doug Perry conducted a reconnaissance and secured the area where the road from CFM crosses the Etowah River. With the establishment of the TOC, Rangers, past and present, began the operation of moving in supplies to include mass amounts of firewood, food, drink, and a "church" tent. (Those who spent the night know just how holy it was.)

The weather on Saturday could not have been better. An estimated 70-80 Rangers answered the call to muster. As specified in the Op Order, at 1500 the chow was ready and the actions at the Obj began. A frenzy of activity engulfed the mess area, and when the smoke cleared and the dust settled, there was still plenty of wild game left on the stove. Thanks to all who contributed to the mess tent.
The event was going just as planned when Ranger Rosso's vehicle was towed into the perimeter. (Could this have been a sign?) Later in the evening word came that another Ranger was having trouble with a motorized apparatus. Anyone who has spent over a day at CFM has witnessed situations in which a vehicle is pulled into the abyss because of the shoulder giving-way.
We are, of course, thankful that Ranger Close was not injured as his Ford went vertical on the low side of the road. (Sorry, no pictures are available.) However, after several hours, a tow truck from town, a Ranger with a winch, and the leadership of Ranger Burrow, the vehicle was extricated and driven from the scene.
About 0100, in accordance with the Ranger Handbook, it began to rain. Just after first light, the few remaining Rangers began the process of extraction. All equipment was secured and loaded, the site was sterilized, and those present concluded: MISSION COMPLETE
As for the event, I like the present format. Somewhat secluded location, and no family members. Lets guys be guys without worrying about outsiders walking up. Sure, it would be more convenient if it was at the end of the airfield, but not as private. Nice having chow on hand so no one has to cook....spend all your time mingling. I believe these will grow as the word spreads thru the internet.
