The '99 Rendezvous began March 13 at 1500; as is typical, at 1600 it began to rain. The temperature was cool but mild. Tom Wilburn and his wife had worked tirelessly to prepare the chow for the event. They fixed deer chilly, elk stew, bear something, and who knows what else! Whatever it was, it warmed the members and filled their empty bellies. A blazing fire was roaring near the Etowah to keep the cool mountain air at bay. A tarp was strung between four trees to protect members from the constant rain, and as you might guess, not a Ranger would stand under it. As the river rose, some wondered if they were going to be able to get back across. As the hour grew late, members began to exit the AO and head for warm beds. Only five tough guys remained at first light. Our thanks to all who prepared for and participated in the 1st Annual Penn Cove Rendezvous!
